For many years, I have been helping people to change homes,
and I thought I would give a few tips on how to relieve moving stress - free of
charge.
Get rid of
unnecessary items
Why would you want to increase costs by paying to move things
that you don't use or need, but that you really want and need?
The duck-shaped
teapot you inherited from Aunt Aileen will ever be used by anyone, and you
really need it.
Consider donating to charity, or your local women's shelter,
or donating to a friend or doing a garage sale to get rid of unneeded items.
If you decide to make the cut, put your plan into action by
doing a little of each and taking them all home at once before you move.
One of the most important things about moving is that you
sort out all the clutter before the removal assistant arrives.
Focus on one area
Focus on one area after another and try to go through your
house, cabinets, basements, and storerooms especially.
Once everything is sorted out, start packing non-essential
items (think Christmas decorations and craft materials) and then try to rest
for a while before you start the big unpacking.
Almost everything you have canceled at your old place of the residence must start again at your new location, and transport should be at the
top of the list.
Plan your move
Once you plan your move, call your phone, internet,
electricity and gas provider to find out when you need to switch everything
off.
You need to be able to read the meter before the big day, so
you need to find a key to read your boxes and not buy one.
With a picture, it becomes easier to set up your TV and
monitor as soon as you move, so you don't have to fret if you need to.
If you take them
apart and pack them together, they take up a lot of space in the living room,
kitchen, bathroom, and even bedroom.
It is best to give yourself a month to tackle these things,
but not knowing how long you have got makes things more difficult.
If you decide to move as soon as possible, you have a lot to
organize, and if it is the same week as your move date, you can squeeze
everything in.
Make sure to book
relocation days outdoors as much as possible, so that you have flexibility
regarding the relocation date, time, location, and other factors.
Look at different options
Look at different options when it comes to moving companies,
as you may find that a week is cheaper than other selected companies.
No matter how long you get, if you move before the date, it
can prepare you for the move - in time and without complicating things.
Have a flexible schedule
If you have a flexible schedule, play around with possible
relocation dates and tries to find the most convenient time of the month to make
an appointment.
If you can skip the chaos on Saturday and plan your move -
in for Tuesday, you'll get a substantial discount.
Be aware: some removal companies are busy at weekends, and
some of them are busier at weekends.
If I can take a day off from work and move in on Wednesday,
I get a better discount, but If they're busy at weekends, I don't get the big
discounts.
If you can avoid this, then it is worth a try, but if you
need to move on a Friday, don't panic: plan your move in advance to avoid
availability issues and get the best price.
If you move in on
Friday and you get a good price, make sure you go back to your plan if things
go wrong.
Advance planning
Advance planning is always essential when moving, and if
there is an extra month or two to allow you to run your own business, plan it.
This gives you the time you need to notify your customers
conserve your funds and take a quick and efficient step that gives you the
chance to get up and running quickly once the move is complete, and be ready
for the first open day of your new home.
Packing Calendar
Follow a packing
calendar to keep up to date and pack on moving day, and decide what you want to
keep.
Pack what you don't need on the go - during the day and remember it later
when you're in your new house.
Pack things into small containers, such as boxes, bags,
boxes, and clothing boxes. This is a great way to arrange clothes in plates and
bowls to prevent unwanted movements.
A move is time-consuming and can be a really stressful time,
but every other day requires more time than the daily move itself.
